This vapor vent on Mauna Loa was a big attraction for tourists.
The smoke was mostly harmless condensed water (from the rain) that had been heated and evaporated in the hot underground. Though these vapors were harmless there were reports that nearby area had been closed due to the dangerous sulfur dioxide emanations from the volcano.
